“Flamingos” is a study where the perspective manipulations are the strongest conventions of the composition. The image’s intent is to give the viewer the experience of a bird’s eye perspective. Each bird was based on an aerial photograph. I removed the foreground focusing just on the action of the birds. Using only oil pencil gave me a big value range which helped me build the texture on the birds, the effect of their reflection on the water and their shadow on the water. The challenge of this work was that I couldn’t erase, since the paper would get damaged. The sketches and studies allowed me to practice before drawing on the final piece.
